Originally established as "Women's History Week" in 1981, Women's History Month was first celebrated in 1987 as a way to celebrate the contributions women have made over the course of American history.

Rosie the Riveter

An iconic design and significant symbol in America's history, Rosie the Riveter came around in 1942 — long before Women's History Month was (finally) established. You can read all about Rosie on History's "Uncovering the Secrete Identity of Rosie the Riveter" but we're going to focus on the many designs Rosie inspired that have empowered women around the world for years.
